Bosses 'cannot listen with their mouths open'
Date: 30/01/2009
Leaders hoping to recognise performance of their employees have been reminded that it is not possible to listen to workers with their mouth open.
F John Reh, a management specialist working for About.com, stated that managers looking into ways of motivating employees are much better off looking to a simple yet effective reward and recognition plan, particularly in the current climate where everyone feels the strain.
Positive feedback is a good start, he asserts, adding that offering them better assignments if they work harder on their current project is another good way to get the most out of their colleagues.
He continued: "Another excellent motivator is to actively listen to an employee. Give them your undivided attention for a few minutes and listen to them without interrupting."
Bosses who are stuck for ideas may want to turn to an events agency which is able to establish a competent recognition scheme in their workplace.
Earlier this month, the concept of incentives was discussed in relation to an environmentally-friendly workplace by Marks & Spencer and the Energy Saving Trust, with the pair highlighting the need for bosses to encourage their staff to be greener through incentive schemes.
