Employee motivation has become a key corporate concern in the wake of the recent recession and global economic downturn.
According to HR magazine, it will continue to top workplace agendas in 2011 and employers need to ensure that staff engagement issues are dealt with before the busy Christmas period takes hold.
The publication's Andy Philpott claims that now is the time to start thinking about the effectiveness of reward and recognition programmes.
He noted that every employer should also be considering how to best motivate staff when they return to work after the festive season.
Mr Philpott said that organisations should be asking themselves: "Should we show special appreciation for commitment and loyalty? If so, what rewards and what criteria should apply?"
This week, Carole Hathaway, a senior consultant at recruitment specialist Towers Watson, claimed that businesses need to look out for their employees' wellbeing if they are to maintain engagement.
