Blue Monday, also known as the most depressing day of the year on January 19th, is a reality but there are ways in which businesses can solve the problems that arise from it, it is claimed.
Human resources consultant Jeni McCabe makes her comments to the Press and Journal and suggests trying a team building or motivational exercise to bring some fun into the workplace.
She also recommends encouraging employees to walk around at lunch or do exercises at their desks to get physical.
"Put simply, this Monday doesn't have to be a depressing day and the year ahead doesn't have to be blighted by the same symptoms," she tells the publication.
Ms McCabe adds that it is possible, with some fun and optimism, to "turn Blue Monday into Bright Monday".
Around one-quarter of workers are expected to be absent on Blue Monday, as unpaid Christmas bills and other depressive effects combine to bring people down, according to absence management specialist FirstCare.
