In a bid to develop a so-called "conference quarter" in the town, Blackpool council has announced its decision to acquire a Grade II listed cinema as the base for a new conference centre.
The Northwest Development Agency will be funding the £700,000 effort to take over the running of the location, which more recently served as a nightclub before being unused for a number of months, the Blackpool Gazette revealed.
As part of the overall initiative to bring more corporate events to the town, the council has also bought land next to the Central Station, which was originally outlined as a place to host the failed supercasino proposals of last year.
It is hoped the building will attract events organisers for team building events with its exterior from 1912, which must be preserved during redevelopment in light of its status with English Heritage.
West Yorkshire has also seen major developments on the conference scene in recent months, with the Aagrah restaurant group opening a £4 million development in Thornbury, which can host up to 700 delegates.
