Basic incentives and recognition are 'really easy' to dole out

Date: 09/12/2009

Very simple things can go a long way in helping a working team grow together as people, according to an office motivation specialist.

Steve Strauss, an expert in incentives and recognition for USA Today, explained that beyond the traditional holiday party, there are a number of other ways to affordably help out a workforce.

He said that working with a charity can really bring people together behind a cause that is worthwhile, though a day of volunteering elsewhere can be seen as a great team building corporate event, particularly if it visibly makes a difference, such as through gardening work or other community activities.

Others are a lot more basic, he added, stating: "Consider giving employees the gift of free time. As everyone is so busy this time of year, a free afternoon here or there would be a welcome way to say thank you."

Earlier this month, Inside Retailing claimed it is highly unlikely that businesses will be able to hold onto staff after the New Year unless they implement incentives and recognition.
