Baseball 'can be applied to office ethics'

Date: 23/09/2009

While it is hardly a mainstream sport in the UK, the ethics demonstrated in baseball can be transferred to the workplace, an expert has claimed.

John Schaefer of Reliable Plant explained that while baseball is simple, it is far from easy to play, much like the implementation of incentives and recognition in the workplace, with a particular focus being placed on the second factor.

He said that in both baseball and the workplace, giving immediate, genuine and appropriate recognition when an employee goes above and beyond their means is one of the most valuable things a supervisor can ever do.

Mr Schaefer added: "If your team is a well-oiled machine, your supervisors will have more time to concentrate on opportunities to use recognition because so much less time is being wasted on recruiting, training and coaching of new employees due to higher than necessary turnover."

This week, Nicole Williams told the Huffington Post that teamwork is essential for success and the importance of a new location for something such as a team building conference is a great way to freshen things up.
