Bahrain 'becoming more popular for company events'

Date: 13/01/2009

Businesses that wish to invest in team building corporate events at a destination abroad may want to show interest in the booming conference production market of Bahrain, it has been stated.

The Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority (Beca) has reported record results in 2008 for its hosting of corporate hospitality events, with its meetings, incentive travel, conferences and exhibitions sector seeing a 35 per cent increase in demand.

His Excellency Dr Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, Beca's chairman and minister of industry and commerce, said 2008 attracted 385,000 international, regional and local visitors and 119 confirmed bookings to the Arab state.

"Beca is back in the black because we are actively going out seeking international congresses, meetings and other key events and our improved operating performance - we are not just sitting on our laurels focusing on the exhibition business," he continued.

The government of Bahrain backs Beca and is responsible for the country's world-class status as a place for a company event.
