'Stellar performance can be achieved with reward and recognition'

Date: 16/08/2010

Reward and recognition programmes can help businesses get the absolute best out of their staff, it has been claimed.

According to American Express, employee motivation can be ratcheted up by effective sales incentive programmes, but small businesses need to be clever about what they offer workers if they cannot afford to pay large cash bonuses.

The firm said that the key to an effective reward and recognition programmes is to set achievable goals.

Writing for news.com.au, America Express said sales incentives can either be tailored to individuals or used to reward an entire team if certain benchmarks for staff are met.

The company claimed that another great way to incentivise staff is to offer flexible working.

"Think about setting up a system through which staff are able to apply for flexible working conditions if they reach their targets," the firm told the news provider.

"You might enable staff to work from home a day a week, or allow them to work flexible hours, for example early starts and finishes, or late starts and finishes," it added.

According to employment specialist Kelly Services, 30 per cent of UK workers are involved in a profit-sharing reward and recognition programmes.
