Managers can boost employee motivation be reminding staff what drew them to their current job in the first place, it has been claimed.
Nicolas Zart, an employee coaching specialist, said that leadership and motivation can be boiled down inspiring staff and reminding them of exactly why they applied for their current role.
Writing for Examiner, Mr Zart said: "It might come as a surprise but 80 per cent of the time, a good coach helps an employee rekindle what first attracted them to the job."
"Once the employee realises what drew them there, the rest of the 20 per cent is for business owners to facilitate quality of life at work, and automatically, retaining key players," he added.
His comments suggest that reward and recognition programmes don't necessarily need to be expensive.
He also highlighted the importance of relaxing in the workplace - saying that without it mental health can be compromised and staff can end up taking days off sick - which will impact on the company's bottom line.
Recently, law firm Davies Arnold Cooper suggested that improving internal communication can help to boost worker engagement.
