The number of workers who are believe they are underpaid is 93 per cent, leading to a lack of employee motivation, according to a study.
Results from a poll by HR consultancy Reabur also show that only four per cent of workers are happy with their pay.
However, despite these figures, which reveal that 61 per cent of staff over-estimate how much they are worth, reward and recognition expert Adam Dachis claimed that staff motivation was driven more by career progression than pay.
"When it comes to creative work, external motivations are just not cutting it. Money doesn't inspire better performance," he wrote for lifehacker.com.
"Personally, while I definitely enjoy having money, I've found that it's an extremely poor motivation to do better work," he added.
And Kirsty Burgess, co-founder of Reabur.com, said that the statistics revealed that workers are "out of touch" with pay-packet realities.
